Most physicians tend to have a personal connection to entering the field of naturopathic oncology. A loved one who passed away from cancer or a family member currently suffering. When I graduated medical school and was leaning towards specialization, I was actually open to anything but cancer. It was the one thing I didn't want to specialize in because the outlook seemed grim and I wasn't sure how helpful our medicine could be in ameliorating the disease picture or the conventional processes of treating cancer. However, as I started to expand my practice, I found that oncology was the field that I was the most drawn to, that I was the most passionate about. In fact, it was the only thing I was drawn to. I couldn't stop researching, attending both allopathic and naturopathic cancer conferences, and learning about how much naturopathic and alternative therapies can aid in conventional treatments or act on its own for those who decide to not take the conventional route. I was able to see firsthand the fallacy that most patients believe when they go to conventional oncologists. They believe that the chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery are curative while the oncologists see it as mainly palliative. I was able to further realize that we as naturopathic physicians are an integral part in the healing process of this disease and can aid in reducing the side effects of the conventional therapies and reduce the potential causes of cancer that may be overlooked by traditional healthcare. As my patients continued to improve and beat out death sentences given to them by some of their oncologists, a new partnership and goal began to emerge between myself and the conventional oncology field. One that is geared towards increasing collaboration between the two fields of medicine and educating on how both fields can work together to improve the lives of the cancer patient.
In my spare time, I like to continue my other career in the entertainment industry. I am an actor, dancer, and film producer. I am part of the SAGAFTRA professional actors union and continue to perform in the industry along with working as a physician.
