Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement for the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians

The Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP) affirms the inherent dignity and equality of all people and honors the diversity of identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences that shape our community and the healthcare system, including race, ethnicity, nationality, Indigenous identity, gender identity, sex characteristics, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion or belief system, language, socioeconomic position, education, and other dimensions of lived experience.

We acknowledge that health outcomes are shaped not only by biology but also by social, structural, and systemic forces, including institutionalized racism and inequitable access to care. These forces disproportionately affect historically marginalized communities and influence cancer risk, access to screening and treatment, survivorship, and quality of life. We affirm that ethical oncology care requires awareness of the societal forces that shape illness, healing, and trust, alongside a commitment to practicing medicine in ways that uphold dignity, respect, and humanity for all.

The OncANP recognizes that diversity strengthens our profession and that equity is essential to ensuring fair access, meaningful participation, and shared leadership. We acknowledge that systemic barriers and historical inequities shape experiences within healthcare, education, and professional spaces, including within naturopathic oncology.

We further acknowledge that naturopathic oncology therapies draw from diverse health traditions, including the knowledge and practices of Indigenous peoples across many nations, cultures, and ethnicities, and we honour these origins with respect and integrity.

The OncANP commits to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into the fabric of our organizational culture, systems, policies, and practices. We apply an equity lens of sensitivity and inclusion across all levels of our work—including governance, committees, education and training, leadership development, research, partnerships, and member engagement—to promote transparency, accountability, belonging, and meaningful participation.

We strive to cultivate an inclusive professional community where diverse perspectives are respected, contributions are valued, and all members are supported to participate fully and lead meaningfully in advancing equitable, patient-centered oncology care. This commitment is ongoing and will be reviewed regularly as part of our organizational learning, reflection, and governance processes.
