Breast Cancer Disparities in African-American Women: Factors to Consider with Aminah Keats, ND, FABNO

$25.00

The way in which breast cancer impacts African-American women is alarming. The incidence of breast cancer in African-American women is very similar when compared to incidence rates in Caucasian women. However, the mortality rate from breast cancer in African-American women is at least 40% greater when compared to Caucasian women. In addition, African-American and West African born American women have the highest rates of triple negative disease compared to other ethnic groups in the United States.

This presentation will provide an overview of the disparities that impact African-American women with breast cancer. This presentation will also highlight some of the important factors that integrative health care providers should consider when treating women in this population.

Learning Objectives

  1. To understand common elements that contribute to the disparities seen in African-American women with breast cancer

  2. To understand the differences in breast tumor biology as it relates to African-American women

  3. To review factors that should be taken into consideration when providing naturopathic oncology treatment to African-American women with breast cancer
